She's met them all: Obama, Biden, Clinton (both of them), Edwards, Richardson, and others like them. While a guest on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, she chastised a sitting president. And in between political Meet 'n Greets and researching Iowa cold cases, she's demonstrating for house guests how she taught the three family dogs to do a police line-up or answering a call to familial duty.

Kids, Dogs & Democrats Running Wild: Campaigning for Sanity in Iowa is a seriocomic roller-coaster ride through America's Heartland, where one writer gets off only long enough to attend family reunions, committee meetings, weddings and funerals, feed dogs and a Pilot-to-Bombardier phone-ringing parrot, face family tragedies and applaud triumphs, and perhaps even revel over another hard won day in a life moving all too fast.

Cover of PULLJody on "Pull" ...

Old worn cowboy boots but a crisp tan Stetson tilted low on his brow. He's leaning into the 12-gauge, his finger on the trigger. I both admired and feared him, but never considered him vulnerable. He first proved me wrong the summer of '69. "Pull" is based on the incident that taught me love wears many hats.
